About UsWelcome to The Construction Specifications Institute The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) is a national association established in 1948, dedicated to creating standards and formats to improve construction documents and project delivery. The organization is unique in the industry in that its members are a cross-section of specifiers, architects, engineers, owners, contractors, students, building materials suppliers and representatives, and other construction industry professionals. The organization has 146 chapters and more than 15,000 members worldwide. The Salt Lake City Chapter was established in September 1995, and currently serves the State of Utah. CSI SLC provides professional development and networking opportunities for it's members, and collaborates with other industry associations and universities to address local construction issues and offer certification and training seminars. CSI SLC also performs central guidance for local CSI Student Chapter affiliates. Monthly Chapter meetings allow members the opportunity to communicate openly with their counterparts and exchange information for successful project management. CSI is renowned in the industry for its rigorous certification programs for professionals seeking to improve their knowledge of accurate and concise construction documents. CSI provides continuing education, professional conferences, and product shows.
Mission Statement: The mission of the Salt Lake City Chapter of The Construction Specifications Institute is to provide its members the opportunity to share information about materials and methods of construction and to promote improved preparation, delivery and use of construction documents. The Chapter fosters professional development of its members and provides service to the construction industry by promoting education, research, certification, recognition of outstanding accomplishments and networking opportunities within the Chapter, Region, Institute and construction industry.

Flagship Documents The Project Resource Manual -- CSI Manual of Practice: The authoritative resource for the organization, preparation, use and interpretation of construction documents, encompassing the entire life cycle of a facility from conception through facility management. The MOP provides structured guidelines for construction specification writing. MasterFormat 2004 Edition: The recognized specification industry standard for more than 40 years, MasterFormat 2004 Edition replaces MasterFormat 1995. CSI expanded the well-known "16 Divisions" to 50 Divisions of construction information, reflecting the growing complexity of the construction industry, as well as the need to incorporate facility life cycle and maintenance information into the building knowledge base. In this way, MasterFormat will eventually help facilitate Building Information Modeling (BIM) to contain project specifications.
