Come Tour QuartzDyne's New 50,000 Square/Foot Facility at 201 Commerce Center
Quartzdyne designs and manufactures high-precision, high-pressure quartz-crystal-based transducers for the oil and gas industries, including downhole and lab/wellhead versions. Quartzdyne also manufactures hybrid electronics for high-reliability or high-temperature applications. They are a Dover company with approximately 75 employees.
The architect Robert Pinon, Project Manager/Associate Principal of MHTN Architects will discuss the design challenges met in order to achieve a LEED Silver certification from the USGBC. After the lunch presentation, Lon Perry, President of Quartzdyne and Mr. Pinon will conduct a facility tour. David Keesler, Senior Project Manger for Layton Construction will also be present to answer questions regarding construction challenges.
About the Facility Quartzdyne is one of the latest tenants of the new $300 million 201 Commerce Center industrial park located in West Valley City, UT. The company outgrew it's Murray, UT location, and they plan on continued growth. The building broke ground in 2008 and Quartzdyne started operations at the new $12.5M facility in May 2009. The new 50,000 square-foot building was designed with growth and flexibility in mind, and it will facilitate some LEAN manufacturing initiatives that Quartzdyne was unable to do in their previous Murray, UT facility that occupied three buildings. It is approximately 33% larger than the previous location, sitting on more than six-acres with the potential to expand to more than 70,000 square-feet. The new building has improved internal communication, product flow, safety, and manufacturing capabilities.
When Quartzdyne considered a new facility to accommodate growth, they wanted it to be designed with sensitivity to the environment, while carefully weighing capital and operating costs. Quartzdyne’s new facility was designed to satisfy Silver LEED requirements. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance "green" (environmentally sustainable) buildings. Click here to see a summary of the features that were implemented in the new facility with the environment in mind. The building achieved LEED certification thanks in large part to a system of high-efficiency energy consumption. Quartzdyne is proud to manufacture precision pressure transducers and hybrid circuits that enhance recovery of hydrocarbon reservoirs. Enhanced recovery reduces demand for new drilling and its environmental impact. Similarly Quartzdyne has sought to sustain the environment with their new facility.
The Quartzdyne building was Phase One of the 201 Commerce Center. The second phase of the project broke ground in October 2008 and will include three additional buildings. The 201 Commerce Center will be a fully landscaped, master-planned mixed-use office and distribution center park. Layton Construction will build 29 buildings on 110 acres for developer, The Argent Group.
